Akorn Education is committed to providing quality services to you and this policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your Personal Information.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees, contractors and consultants working with Akorn Education as well as anyone with access to our systems or data. The policy itself is owned by Adam Oldmeadow and reviewed on a regular basis (at least annually) as part of Akorn Education’s risk management practices.

Why do we collect it? 

We collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of providing our services to you, providing information to our clients and marketing. We may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure. You may unsubscribe from our mailing/marketing lists at any time by contacting us in writing.

When we collect Personal Information, we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.

We may also indirectly collect your personal information from third parties we partner with, such as marketing agencies or other referral businesses.

 

Payment Information

We use Stripe as our payment processor to securely handle all transactions. When you make a payment, your credit or debit card details are collected and processed directly by Stripe. Akorn Education does not store or have direct access to your complete payment card details. Stripe handles payment processing in compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) to ensure secure transactions.

Additionally, we accept payments via direct bank transfers. When you choose to pay via bank transfer, your payment details are processed securely through your financial institution. Akorn Education does not collect, store, or retain your banking details, except for necessary transaction records required for accounting and compliance purposes.

We do not store sensitive payment details on our systems. Instead, all payment data is securely processed through Stripe for online payments and through banking institutions for direct transfers. All transactions are subject to the respective payment processor’s privacy and security policies. If you have any concerns about your payment information, we recommend reviewing Stripe’s Privacy Policy or contacting your bank.

Third-Party Payment Processors

We do not collect, store, or process payment data directly. All payment transactions are securely handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS-compliant third-party payment processor. By using our services, you agree to Stripe’s handling of your payment data in accordance with their privacy policy.

Stripe implements industry-leading security measures, including encryption and fraud protection, to safeguard transactions. Any concerns regarding payment security should be directed to Stripe’s Privacy Policy.

 

Data Protection & Compliance

To ensure the highest level of security, we rely on PCI DSS-compliant third-party payment providers for all transactions. We do not store, process, or have direct access to customers’ credit card or banking information. All transactions are subject to the privacy and security policies of the respective payment processors.

We comply with applicable data protection laws, including the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and international regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA, where applicable.

Storage of Personal Information 

Akorn Education primarily stores your personal information electronically but may also hold on to some details in hardcopy for administration purposes. We use third party storage solutions (including cloud storage), and these solutions can result in information originally provided separately being combined into single records. Not all third parties are guaranteed to be located in Australia.

 

Security of Personal Information

Your Personal Information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your Personal Information. However, most of the Personal Information is or will be stored in client files which will be kept by us for a minimum of three years.

 

Sensitive Information 

Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.

Sensitive information will be used by us only:

    • For providing the services we offer and to fulfil our obligations to you, such as processing your requests or providing relevant support.
    • For improving our services or complying with legal requirements, including communication regarding service updates, promotions, or other information related to your account or our services.
  • With your consent, or where required or authorised by law, such as complying with regulatory requirements, legal proceedings, or responding to lawful requests by government authorities.

 

Access to your Personal Information

You may access the Personal Information we hold about you and to update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your Personal Information, please contact us in writing.

We will take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we hold remains accurate and, if you advise us of a change of details, we will amend our records accordingly. Where your information has been disclosed to a third party, Akorn Education will take reasonable steps to notify the third party of the correction. Where we are unable to update your information, an explanation in writing will be provided as to why the information cannot be corrected.

In order to protect your Personal Information, we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.
